A UK man from Normanton-on-Soar, Loughborough, was recently sentenced to prison after a lengthy fraud investigation.

The 45-year-old stole over £500,000 from a family business to fund his gambling habit.

He used false company names and forged documents to cover his tracks.

Leicestershire Police charged him with fraud by abuse of position and false accounting.

In June, he was found guilty on all counts.

Last week, the court sentenced him to six years and six months in prison.

Nicole McIntyre from the Economic Crime Unit said the man showed no remorse.

She added that he betrayed the trust placed in him as a trusted family business member.

The investigation revealed the fraud lasted from 2014 to 2017.

The man worked at Fox Sports Surfacing Ltd., a family-owned company.

In 2017, an office manager noticed suspicious credit card statements.

The man had transferred more than £500,000 to his personal bank account.

He also transferred £50,000 to another family member’s account.

Police said the stolen money funded his gambling.

It is unclear if he was officially labeled a problem gambler or if any money remains.

The man forged documents and used fake company names to hide the fraud.

He diverted company funds to his own accounts instead of paying suppliers.

Confiscation proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act are underway.

These may lead to seizure of assets bought with stolen money.

If he does not cooperate, his prison sentence could increase.
