North Carolina Woman Wins $1 Million on Spectacular Riches Scratch-Off Ticket

Luck favors the hopeful, and for Jennifer Conyers of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, her unwavering belief paid off big time. The Nash County resident recently won a $1 million top prize from the North Carolina Education Lottery’s popular scratch-off game, Spectacular Riches.

$1 Million Win Sparks Joy and Big Plans

Conyers purchased her winning $25 ticket from 301 Market on South McDaniel Street in Enfield. After returning home and scratching off the ticket, she was stunned to discover she had hit the jackpot.

“Every time I get a scratch-off, I think, ‘This is the one,’” Conyers shared with lottery officials. Her confidence turned into reality when she called her son to share the exciting news, to which he responded in disbelief: “Are you serious?”

How Jennifer Plans to Use Her Windfall

The fortunate winner called her big win “a blessing” and revealed her plans for the $1 million prize. Conyers intends to buy a car for her son and make a down payment on her mortgage, securing financial peace for her family.

Lump Sum or Installments: Winner’s Choice

At the Lottery headquarters, Jennifer Conyers was offered two payout options:

• $1 million paid in 20 annual installments of $50,000 each

• Or a lump sum cash payment of $600,000

She opted for the lump sum, which after applicable state and federal taxes, resulted in a net payout of approximately $429,000.

Spectacular Riches Scratch-Off Game Nears End

Launched on October 5, 2021, the Spectacular Riches scratch-off ticket cost $25 per play and offered players the chance to win prizes ranging from $40 up to $1 million. The overall odds of winning any prize in the game were 1 in 4.26.

With Jennifer’s recent $1 million jackpot being the final top prize, the North Carolina Education Lottery has announced it will begin the official process to retire the game.
